Is The Disney Dining Plan Worth It For UK Visitors?
Paying up to £1,000 per person to add food on to a 14-day holiday to Walt Disney World Resort is a big decision. The question of whether this is worth the outlay is one everyone from the UK faces when planning their Disney holiday and staying on-site.
Long before you’re working up an appetite, and fancying a snack walking 20,000 steps a day you have the decision of whether to pay for food as you go or to buy one of the two types of dining plan. Understanding real in-park costs and knowing the type of dining experiences you want, as well as considering the food types available and portion sizes, are all a big part of assessing dining plan value for UK visitors.
2026 Disney Dining Plan Costs
Plan | 7 Nights Cost (age 10+, per person) | 14 nights Cost (age 10+, per person) |
|---|---|---|
Disney Quick Service Dining Plan | £349.93 | £699.86 |
Disney Dining Plan | £559.93 | £1,119.86 |
In 2026, kids eat free with the new Disney offer, so children in the party aged 3-9 aren’t charged, so there is no child price included above. Read more about the 2026 Disney Kids Eat Free Dining Offer.
The dining plan is a significant investment, on top of your package and park tickets, so you need to be sure that it is worth the additional cost to your holiday. For a lot of UK holidaymakers, booking in advance and making the most of Disney’s free dining plan offer is the best and most cost-effective way to get a dining plan. Although the dining plan offered varies on where you stay in comparison to the paid options.
2 Disney Dining Plans; 2 Differences
Disney dining plans are pre-paid meal packages that you usually book as part of a package when staying in a Disney World hotel. There are two different dining plans:
The Disney Quick Service Dining Plan
The Disney Dining Plan
There are only two key differences between the two:
cost
the Disney Dining plan offers a sit down meal instead of a quick service meal for the one of the meal options.
Adult prices begin at age 10, which can impact the value of the dining plan for families, especially if you have a picky eater or a child who is 10 but doesn’t eat much. In 2026, the dining plan for children is free when adults buy their packages. And under 3’s can eat off a parent’s plate for free.

Disney Dining Plans vs. Paying Out of Pocket
While dining plans offer peace of mind around food budgeting, booking reservations and planning meals can bring with it a different kind of holiday stress. The question of getting value for money is a big one, especially given the cost of a dining plan for a family.
One important thing to note, that a lot of UK visitors miss when working out prices for meals, is that Disney show prices without tax, so when you purchase your drinks and meals sales tax is added on. Across most of the Disney Resort this is 6.5%, but it is higher in some resorts. You can use our sales tax calculator to find out the exact tax you’ll pay depending on where you are.
Resort Mugs
The resort refillable mug is a one-time cost of $22.99 (£17.03) plus tax in 2026, if you pay out of pocket. You can use the cup for the duration of your stay in a Disney resort.
It is included in both dining plans, but If you don’t decide to purchase a dining plan, consider buying a mug. We always find them excellent value for money across a 14-night Disney World resort stay, and recommend them to everyone. If you want to see the value of a resort mug per drink, you can use our Resort mug calculator in the guide.
Cost comparison: Quick-Service Dining Plans vs. Paying As You Go
Disney Quick Service Dining Plan = £49.99 per person per day | Pay As You Go Cost = $51.93 (£38.47) |
|---|---|
1 quick-service meal and 1 drink | Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, Magic Kingdom Quick-service meal: 4 chicken strips and fries from Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Magic Kingdom = $10.99 (£8.14) plus tax = $11.70 (£8.67) Drink: Fountain Drink $4.79 (£3.55) (plus tax) = $5.07 (£3.76) Total = $16.77 (£12.42) |
1 quick-service meal and 1 drink | Everything POP Food Court Quick-service meal: Sesame Chicken $12.99 (£9.62) (plus tax) =$13.83 (£10.24)
|
1 snack | Waffle with Chocolate Hazelnut Spread, Bananas, Berries and Whipped Cream. $9.79 (£7.25) (plus tax) = $10.42 (£7.72) |
This example shows the cost of food using a full per night allocation, but you could eat this food at any time over the course of your trip; it doesn’t need to be in one day.
The comparison of paying out of pocket vs using the quick service plan shows:
The quick service dining plan is not worth it as paying out of pocket would be cheaper than paying in advance and using dining plan credits.
As most quick service meals cost less than $14.99 (£11.10). A UK visitor would need to choose the most expensive options for food and drink using the quick service dining plan for it to be financially worth it.
You might note the resort mug is not included in the costing. This is because the amount it adds per day toa 14 day holiday is only $1.74 (£1.29).
The quick service dining plan is only worth it for a select number of UK visitors in 2026. Doing the maths is essential if you buy the plan and are concerned about getting your money’s worth in food and drink.
Who should not buy the quick service dining plan?
The quick service plan is unlikely to be the best fit for UK visitors who:
have a hire car and can get food in off-site locations
don’t drink
aren’t big meat eaters
Have children aged 10+ who eat small portions, or who prefer small portions themselves
Have a group of people who do not all want the dining plan.
In these instances paying for food and drink out of pocket will offer greater savings.
The Quick Service Dining Plan effectively charges you for convenience if you are a group of adults traveling from the UK who don’t want to drink alcohol with every meal. It is not worth feeling limited to buying the most expensive item on a menu every time, just to feel you haven’t paid too much for a dining plan.
Who should buy the quick service plan?
The quick service dining plan is worth it for UK visitors who:
value piece of mind and convenience, knowing meals are paid for
Have children aged 3-9, as the children will get free dining plans for the whole of 2026.
Buying a Disney Quick Service Dining Plan often means looking to maximise the value of your dining credits. There is a very narrow line between offering financial value and charging for convenience with this Dining Plan option. To find out how to maximise your dining credits head to ….
Cost Comparison: Disney Dining Plan vs. Pay As You Go
Disney Dining Plan = £79.99 | Pay As You Go (Including Tax) = $91.79 (£67.99) |
1 quick-service meal and 1 drink | EPCOT - Connections Eatery Pepperoni Pizza $11.99 (£8.88) (plus tax) = $12.76 (£9.45) Drink: Belgian Chocolate Gelato Shake $7.99 (£5.92) (plus tax) = $8.51 (£6.30) Total (including tax) = $21.27 (£15.76) |
1 table-service meal – 1 main and 1 desert or entrée and a drink | Animal Kingdom: Yak and Yeti Chicken Tikka Masala: $27.99 (£20.73) (plus tax) = $29.80 (£22.07) New York Cheesecake: $12.99 (£9.62) (plus tax) = $13.83 (£10.24) Daou Cabernet Sauvignon: $16 (£11.85) (plus tax) = $17.04 (£12.62) Total (including tax) = $60.67 (£44.94) |
1 snack or drink | Amorette’s Patisserie, Disney Springs Lemon Blueberry Cheesecake: $9.25 (£6.85) (plus tax) Total (including tax) = $9.85 (£7.30) |
In this scenario the guest will not break even on the per night price of the Disney Dining Plan, which means that the Disney Dining Plan is not worth it here. This remains the case if you add the cost of the resort mug on too, $1.74 (£1.29).
However, the Disney Dining Plan includes both show dining packages, including Fantasmic!, and character dining, which is a more expensive table service option. So let’s take a look at a comparison using that option.
Does Character Dining add value to Disney Dining Plans?
Disney Dining Plan = £79.99 | Pay As You Go (including tax) = $116.99 (£86.66) |
1 quick-service meal | Hollywood Studios: Woody’s Lunch Box Grilled Three Cheese Sandwich: $10.99 (£8.14) (plus tax) = $11.70 (£8.67) Drink: Simply Orange $5.59 (£4.14) (plus tax) = $5.95 (£4.41) Total (including tax): $17.65 (£13.07) |
1 table-service meal | Chef Mickey (character dining Dinner buffet) $69 (£51.11) (plus tax) = $73.48 (£54.43) Pink Spritzer Zero Proof Cocktail:$13.50 (£10) = $14.37 (£10.64) Total (including tax) = $87.85 (£65.07) |
1 snack or drink | Milk Stand, Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Tenoo Swirl Crunchies Cereal = $10.79 (£7.99) (plus tax) Total (including tax) = $11.49 (£8.51) |
In this comparison it shows that the Disney Dining Plan is worth buying, when you use your table service credit for a Disney Character Dining Experience. It is worth noting though, that there is a suggested tip of $17.57 (£13.01) on this for parties under 5 people, and for parties of 6 or more this extra cost would be something you would need to pay on the day. Tipping is not included in the dining plan so this is a cost you still need to budget for; for more information head to tipping with the Disney Dining Plan: how it works.
Is the Disney Dining Plan worth it?
For UK visitors, the Disney Dining Plan needs consideration, as it is worth it for people who want multiple character and show dining experiences, but not for people who just enjoy a nice sit down meal.
Who should buy the Disney Dining Plan in 2026?
UK visitors who would find the Disney Dining Plan worth it in 2026 are people who:
Have children aged 3-9 as the current offer means they eat for free, and this includes at character dining and shows.
Want to experience lots of character dining or show and dining packages.
Enjoy dining as part of their holiday and want the convenience and peace of mind that sit-down dining experiences are paid for before the trip, (excluding tips).
The Disney dining plan can save you quite a bit of money if you want to enjoy character and show dining packages during your trip. Without these options, the Disney dining plan will add value if you eat a lot of meat and fish, as this usually has a higher price point on the menus. If you will drink two alcoholic drinks with your meals, the plan can offer value.
Who should not buy the Disney Dining Plan?
UK visitors who are the least likely to find the Disney Dining Plan worth it:
People who want to experience dining outside if the Disney parks
Anyone with a smaller appetite
Anyone eating a mainly plant based diet, (vegetarians and vegans), who doesn’t want to drink alcohol with meals
Questions To Ask Yourself To Decide IF The Dining Plan Is Worth It.
If you are still on the fence about whether the dining plan is worth it for your trip, here are our top questions to ask yourself:
1: How much do you eat?
Disney adult portions are larger than UK portions; so, ask yourselves how much food you are likely to eat? A meal at Disney is big, so if you don’t eat large amounts, you may find there is too much food with either dining plan option.
2: Are you planning to just stay at Disney?
If you are heading to other parks and places regularly, you are likely to want to eat out there so the dining plan is not worth the cost for you.
3: Are you booking a hire car?
If you do avoid paying for the quick-service dining plan as, you will save money on food by purchasing it in other quick style outlets, restaurants, and supermarkets. If you plan to use Disney as a base to explore from, you won’t want to head back to eat and again credits will go to waste.
4: Do you worry about the food budget for your holiday?
If the answer is yes, a Disney dining plan will give you piece of mind and alleviate worry about budgeting for food. The current kids eat free offer will add value and you will have peace of mind.
5: Are you happy to plan?
You have to book reservations with a Disney Dining Plan, so you need to have a rough plan for your trip. From a value and budget perspective some planning will also help you get the most out of your dining plan. If you don’t want to plan where you will be on specific days and stick to it, a Disney dining plan is not the right fit for your holiday experience.
Our Verdict: Is It Worth It?
If it’s free, we like the dining plan, although then the offer is often not the same as the bought version. In 2026, the only current dining plan offer is kids eat free which is great for some UK families.
In general the dining plan works if you like an alcoholic drink and eat lots of meat. As someone who is a light eater, doesn’t drink, and doesn’t eat a lot of meat, paying for a dining plan just isn’t worth it. And if there is anyone who is a picky eater or mainly beige eater in your party, the dining plan is not worth it.
Disney dining plans are always worth it when they are free, but if you are paying to add them on to your holiday package you need to do the maths. Overall, it depends on the holiday experience that you are looking for as to whether either Disney dining plan will suit you.
