If you’re planning a Walt Disney World holiday from the UK, you might have already realised that there’s no one size fits all answer to when you should go. The best time to visit depends on what you want from your trip: the lowest price, the coolest weather, lighter crowds, or that extra dose of Disney magic from a special event.

The cost and the long journey from the UK adds to the importance of picking the right time when you’re heading to Walt Disney from the UK. When you’re planning that holiday of a lifetime, picking the timing of your holiday so you can get the most from your experience becomes even more important.

In this guide we’ve pulled together year round insights for UK visitors, including the best months to visit for weather, crowds, and value. A quick look at the seasons that offer the most Disney magic, when to avoid peak heat, price surges, and how UK school holidays line-up with Florida’s busiest periods.

How we work out the best times?

The best is a really subjective term, so when we say best it is in relation to experiences we have had in the parks. With that said, we do try to use data where possible to give you the most helpful trip advice.

Crowd levels are always predicted and not guaranteed but as Disney use dynamic pricing, which has an element of crowd prediction involved, we refer to it too.

Best Months To Visit

The best months to visit Walt Disney World from the UK are:

  • April to mid-May

  • Late September to mid-October

Winter and spring are the ideal months for shorter queues, outside of holiday periods, and with cooler temperatures it’s possible to go from ride to ride or park to park all day without feeling fatigued by heat.

Summer is a popular time with families who have more flexibility in flight dates thanks to longer UK summer school holidays. However, the cost can be higher. The high temperatures mean you do have to plan your day to beat the heat, as it can be overwhelming. Daily rain showers around 2pm are normal, so packing to accommodate the rain is essential.

Autumn is a time where many UK visitors find the best balance of heat, crowds, extra events, and cost. September and November are best for people travelling without school considerations. For those with school holidays to consider autumn half term has a lot to offer. Crowd levels fluctuate during Autumn months, but September has consistently low crowd levels year on year according to thrill data.

Coldest months to visit Disney?

The coldest months to visit Walt Disney World are December, January, and February where maximum average daily temperatures hover at 22-25C. That’s often an ideal temperature for a full park day if you’re a UK visitor, as it feels a lot like our summer-time highs.

Hottest months to visit Disney?

The hottest months to visit Walt Disney World are June, July, and August, where temperatures often exceed the daily averages. The heat in Disney also feels very different than here in the UK and combined with the high humidity, feels like temperatures are often higher than the recorded temperatures. The hottest months also happen to be the wettest months; a blessing in disguise when you’re roasting.

Wettest months to visit Disney?

If you’re visiting Disney World between June and September you are likely to experience Florida rain. The type of rain that soaks in seconds. An average of 77.8cm will fall during these months, meanwhile in the UK, there’s an average of about 20.2cm. That’s nearly 4 times the amount of rain, so if you plan to visit then, pack for the rain.

The best weather to visit Disney World

As fellow Brits our advice would be to visit the parks any time from October through to May. Christmas is busy, but the magic outweighs the crowds and queues in our opinion. The extreme heat in the other months can make park days trickier to plan and you may not feel like you can spend as much time in the parks due to the heat. Being able to spend an entire day in the park without melting and needing to change sweaty clothes due to humidity is why we prefer these months.

We also quite enjoy our coffee hot and when the temperature is tipping the scales at 35C in the parks, it’s iced latte all the way. Even then the ice melts way too fast to enjoy that coffee culture and people watching we love. And Disney coffee culture is incredible.

Crowd Levels And Wait Times In The Parks

Crowd levels affect your Disney experience, and when you plan a Disney World holiday from the UK people often look to crowd calendars to see when is quietest or busiest. Crowd calendars are predictions and not always correct. Standing in a 45-minute queue for Belle’s Story time in May surrounded by people complaining about queue times and saying they booked this time because the crowd calendars said it was quiet, was eye-opening.

Disney parks are never truly quiet and for many UK visitors the goal is to find a balance of getting a park experience that is lively but not overwhelming.

Hollywood Studios: Biggest rides.

Best Overall Month: September.

Why: The average wait for the Top 5 rides drops to just 39 minutes. You could realistically ride all five in a single day without Genie+ if you are strategic.

Best "School Holiday" Month: August.

Why: If you cannot do September due to school, late August offers a surprisingly low average of 46 minutes, significantly better than June or July.

Month to Avoid: December & March.

Why: December averages 77 minutes per ride. You would spend nearly 6.5 hours just standing in line for these five attractions alone.

Crowds levels are a prediction, so please remember this when planning, but as a rule of thumb the following applies:

Quieter periods best for relaxed park days

If a slower pace, shorter waits, and a bit more breathing space is what you’re looking for mid January to early March is probably going to be your best time of year to visit. There’s atmosphere, but it’s often Disney light as very little extra magic is going on during this time. September is also an amazing month to visit for lower crowds, especially if you are looking for some Halloween magic too.

Recommended month: September

Moderate crowds: busy but comfortable

A steady buzz can be felt in the parks, but it’s far from chaotic. There are festivals in the early springtime at EPCOT and this is a bright time to visit. The end of August has plenty going on too, and crowd level are beginning to drop after the summer crush. Moderately busy times are often referred to as the shoulder periods; times between busy periods and quiet periods.

Recommended month: May

Peak Crowds: Busiest Periods

Longer queues, fuller parks, but also lots going on to see and experience. These periods can see extreme wait times, yes 3 hours for a ride and strategy to beat queue times will become an essential part of your planning. The magic is still there, and exclusive Easter and Christmas parades, fireworks shows, and events can make the queues and crowds a worthwhile trade-off depending on what you want from your holiday.

Recommended month: December

Both February half-term and October half-term in the UK often fall when US schools are still in session, and the end of UK summer holidays is two weeks later than the end of US summer holidays.
